The nationally recognized DSST Program allows you to receive college credits for learning acquired outside the traditional classroom perhaps from reading, on-the-job training, or independent study. DSSTs offer students a cost effective, time saving way to use their knowledge acquired outside of the classroom to accomplish their educational goals.
Currently, there are almost 2,000 colleges and universities that recognize the DSST program and award college credit for passing scores. Colleges, universities and corporations throughout the United States and in some other countries administer tests year-round.
Like CLEP, these exams measure introductory college course mastery. But unlike CLEP the DSST exam offers some more specialized exams. If you have been a history buff of the Civil War there is an opportunity to apply that to your transcript formally with an exam. Other topics like personal finance allow you to measure a skill acquired through life experience.
Study materials are easily found at a local library, Half.com and used book sales. The DSST study guides at the site are usually only a few pages long but they do provide a good percentage guide to the exam content. These exams have recently moved to computer based testing from paper and pencil, a welcome change.
Military members test free, contact DSST to find out the details. |
